1st DENTON BB - FOOTY TEAM
Every Sunday night a team comprising of staff and seniors from the 1st Denton (plus a couple of 'Old Boys') put on their boots and shin pads and head towards the JJB Soccerdome in Trafford to play in the Sunday Night League. The team started a few years ago in Division 5 and has made a gradual progression through the divisions.
JJB has now been taken over by Powerleague and a few changes have been implemented starting from this season.
The divisions have been changed to eight teams per division (down from ten), and there are now ten divisions (up from seven). Accordingly 1st Denton has been allocated to Division 3 in the new structure.
After a few shocking weeks this was a much better team performance. Ball control and passing were back to the level they were at when we were getting good results. Let's hope we can keep up this level of performance.
Mark also made an appearance this week - even scoring two goals - including a cracking volley on the rebound.
Unfortunately we were unable to put a team together this week and so have had to concede a 10-0 loss.
Well - what can we say? After a very positive start taking us two goals into the lead, the team just fell apart. The energy and passion we once had just didn't seem to be there again this week. It didn't really help only playing with 4 men!
On the positive side maybe Mark will be back next week.
This was a very tough game against tough and determined opposition. Throughout the whole of the game the score was very tight with 1st Denton taking the lead, only to concede goals bringing the score level again.
With just 5 minutes to go the score was level at 8-8. However, a complete breakdown in communication and defence led to a barrage of an attack and the final score was a disappointing 13-8 loss.
"Mark's back next week so we should be OK".
Not a good game generally as we were never really able to take control. On a better day we should have been able to take this team esaily. Most unusual to his normal form, Paul "Butter Fingers" Makon let two goals slip right through his fingers! Final score 7-3 lose.
Opposition cancelled the match at short notice so 1st Denton awarded a default 10-0 win.
A tough opening game for the new season. Both teams performed well with good marking and control, although we got off to a slow start conceding 2 goals within the first few minutes.
The team then pulled together to give us an opening victory of 5-4. Hatrick recorded to Gaz (somehow!)
